Stage 2: Chomutov – Most

The second stage begins in Chomutov and passes through Otvice, around the active Vršany mine, and on to Strupčice. The route then continues through the villages of Malé Březno and Havraň and ends in Most at the recreational Lake Most. The stage is 30 km long.

From Chomutov, the route winds through flat terrain around Otvice and continues toward Strupčice. Along the way, you’ll ride very close to the large, active Vršany quarry. Right along the route near Strupčice, we recommend stopping at a popular local tourist destination: the Maják observation tower. Here you’ll find an official observation point offering a breathtaking view straight down into the deep mining pit, where large machines are hard at work. From the observation tower, the route continues through Malé Březno and Havraň toward Most. First, it takes you to the Benedikt sports and recreation complex, where you’ll find a renowned natural swimming area, an inline skating track, and plenty of greenery. From there, the route continues past the Šibeník observation tower and safely leads you right into the very center of the city of Most.

While in Most, we recommend taking a detour to the popular Lake Most, which was created by flooding an old mine. Thanks to extensive reclamation efforts, you’ll find crystal-clear water, beaches, snack stands, and trails for hikers and cyclists. Hněvín Castle and the Hněvín Lookout Tower are also worth visiting in Most. While they offer a magnificent view of the entire city and the Ore Mountains, be prepared for the fact that the path leading to them goes up a fairly steep hill. The entire second stage ends in the city center, where you’ll have no trouble finding restaurants and lodging for a well-deserved rest.

In terms of surface and safety, the second stage follows dedicated bike paths and low-traffic side roads. While most of the route has high-quality asphalt, on the section between Strupčice and Malé Březno, expect a narrower, unpaved nature trail that’s often surrounded by dense vegetation and grass. In some places, you may also encounter a rougher asphalt surface where you’ll need to ride more carefully (e.g., the section between Malé Březno and Havraň).
